The Top 7 perform live tonight on American Idol 2013. Just seven finalists remain in the Season 12 competition and they’ll be fighting for your votes as their numbers dwindle and another singer prepares for elimination.

Starting at 8PM on FOX the Hopefuls will take the stage and deliver Classic Rock songs, this week’s theme for American Idol. Most importantly, the finalists are not allowed to perform any ballads so no soft moments tonight. We’re gonna rock ‘n roll all night!

The performances back tonight on American Idol 2013. Six finalists remain and their “Idol lives” hang in the balance of a double dose of stage time starting Wednesday at 8PM ET/PT on FOX.

What’s left to be seen is if a certain someone can survive the guy’s curse this season and not be the fifth straight male eliminated from the finalists stages. Of course the best first step for that would be to learn all of one’s lyrics, but let’s not rush things.

This week’s American Idol theme will be wild card-ish with a “song I wish I wrote” which really means “pick any song I want.” The other song will be from the Bacharach-David catalog. Um. Yep.

American Idol 2013 Top 8 live performances are just few hours away. We’ll see the return of the remaining finalists as decided by your votes as they prepare to take on the perennial theme of Motown music.

We’ll be discussing the performances by all the singers tonight but are especially interested to see if current leaders Candice Glover, Angie Miller, and Kree Harrison can continue to dominate the voting charts or if they’ll slip from their perch at the top.

As we discovered earlier this week, the Top 8 finalists will be mentored by none other than the great Smokey Robinson. This should be a great treat for the rising singers and help boost their performances to the next level should they heed his advice.

The Top 9 Results Show Song List

The Top 9 results show was jam packed full of rockin' performances from our current IDOL contestants and IDOL alumni.

First the top guys hit the stage performing the Beatles classic, "Got To Get You Into My Life." Next up Season 10's Casey Abrams jazzed out his own version of the Beatles' "I Saw Her Standing There."

The girls followed up Casey's performance with an intimate rendition of "Here, There and Everywhere." Season 11's Jessica Sanchez then returned to the stage and performed her new single, "Tonight" with pop star Ne-Yo. The single is off her upcoming album, You, Me and the Music which is available for pre-order here.

Thoughts: I don’t think this order will reflect the order of elimination or anything, but I think it does tell  us that Angie through Burnell should be safe for the next couple of weeks. As for those remaining four, any one of them could be in danger this week. I also know that not everyone who watches or votes for Idol is on Twitter. This is not scientific. It’s just a fun look at possibilities.

Our Fave Guy:

Yes, that’s singular! Really, the only guy who’s worth his salt at this point in the competition is Burnell Taylor. Since he stepped on the stage in Baton Rouge to sing “I’m Here” from The Color Purple, he’s been nearly flawless. The judges love his John Legend-esque singing, and so do we.

Our Fave Girls:

Kree Harrison — We really think this Nashville-based country singer could win it all. As Jimmy Iovine pointed out last week, Kree picks her songs with expert precision, which is something not every singer can do. It’ll be especially important this week, as some of the Idols past have really taken a step back during the Lennon/McCartney week.

Candice Glover — While we’d love it if this girl was perhaps just a tad more outgoing, there’s no denying her vocal chops are top-notch. If she keeps up performances like her rendition of “I (Who Have Nothing)” from last week, she could easily be in the Top Two.

Angie Miller — We worry about her, as she’s been called the frontrunner for so long. This can sometimes be the kiss of death when it comes to Idol, but she’s definitely not showing any signs of slowing down with amazing performances. She’s particularly impressive at the piano, so we hope she sticks close to that for the rest of her time on the show.

Our Least Fave Guys:

Paul Jolley — We’re not exactly sure why this guy has such a huge online following, as he’s a bit of a snooze, don’tcha think? He says he’s a country singer, but we haven’t seen much that has shown us this side of his musical persona.

Lazaro Arbos — We feel like we’re going to be struck down just for saying this, but we don’t quite get the appeal of this guy on a musical level. It is truly amazing that, when he sings, there’s no sign of his stutter. But we’ve seen much better singers grace the Idol stage (even on this season).

Devin Velez — This Chicago native is a talented singer but, for some reason, we can’t see ourselves running out and buying an album from him...hence his spot on our “least fave” list.

Our Least Fave Girls:

Janelle Arthur — We hate to put her on our “least fave” list, as Janelle is as cute as a button. She could do no wrong in the eyes of the judges during Hollywood Week as well, as they love her country twang. We think she’s stellar, too, but she doesn’t compare to some of the other female powerhouses. She’s also had a few missteps, where some of the other girls have been nearly flawless.

Amber Holcomb — This gal came out of nowhere during the Las Vegas round with a stunner of a performance. However, her song choices are a bit dated (like “My Funny Valentine” in Sin City), and we think she’ll need to get a more contemporary sound to make the finals.
